I'm an absolute idiot when it comes to these things, so I hope I can learn from you guys Smile

I've seen Mighty Car mods and your speedometer will read incorrectly when the size of the wheels and tyres have been altered? Don't want that Razz

Any suggestions guys? Thanks in advance.

to correct an inaccuracy you'l need to know what tyres the car used initially. most discrepancy are very small anyway.

the 7.0 is the width of the rim in inches, convert that to mm and it's 177. so the ideal tyre i guess is a 175 width and then decide the percentage sidewall by knowing the original tyre profile.

you adjust it either way depending on the look you are after anyway, with stretched looking tyres or tall sidewalls etc.

My Civic originally had 15" wheels, so finding a suitable tyre is easy because all the factory info is there. Now I'm about to fit wheels that are of larger diameter and width, so its unknown territory for me.

I didn't know they made 175mm wide tyres. Smallest size I'm getting is 195mm.

I want it to look factory, so no big meaty tyres or Hellaflush Razz

Pretty handy Smile Just tried the sizes DaveJ mentioned. A bit of an inaccuracy.

205 45 16 would usually go on rims that size

195 45 will look the best but with our roads you wouldnt want to hit any pot holes

195 50 would be a safer bet Imo

195/45/R16 on my TOM's NA-Rs which are 16x6.5JJ +38et I think

sit nicely on the rim and protect the rim itself with the tyres being that little bit wider

Yeah, have to consider the road conditions.

What size tyre is supposed to be used on your car from factory?

You could use 185/50/16, 195/50/16 or 205/45/16. All of these are +/- 5mm which is less than a 1% difference in the rolling radius so shouldn't effect your speedometer reading too much

Personally i wouldn't go too much into it, them guys should have explained it a bit better but anyhow, your speedo most likely isn't calibrated to exact speed anyways... For instance if you were reading 100kph then chances are your only going about 95kph... did they say what it can be knocked out by and what tyre sizes were they basing their analysis on?
Personally I'd choose a decent sidewall for a bit more forgiving ride on our roads and not a stretched tyre... They can look well on the right car but as said offer no rim protection against curbs potholes etc....
That's my tuppence worth anyways lol!

I'm worried, even if I'm going 1km/h faster than it says on the speedometer Sad My dad got fined for going 2km/h over the limit.

That's some good info Smile I do park my car by a curb, so I definitely don't want to scrape the wheels I'm getting! Especially when they're genuine... I've said too much silent
