PostSubject: Levin emissions   Thu Sep 24, 2015 5:18 pm

Just had a prob with emission in levin,
She failed first time and tester said she's blowing somewhere that's why emissions wrong so I sorted out any blows and their proper ceiled up, so brought it back again and she failed he said lamda so I got a lamda off a buddy who just passed nct with it a month or so ago and it failed again. I gave her a good clearing back the road before each test aswel so no cobwebs.
Any advice? Other then forking out 200 quid on new lamda and is there any place handy that I can get emissions tested before test?

Have you a pic of the NCT sheet?

If it's Lambda reading there's a leak,

if it's CO it's either cat or lambda

You'relambda result being out doesn't mean your lambda sensor is faulty.

The NCT lambda result will let you know if the car is running too rich or too lean or if there is a perception of lean-ness like a blow.

What was the exact result?

I see they actually moved the boundaries on this last year to make it easier to pass. You used to have to be between 0.97 and 1.03, now it's between 0.93 and 1.07!

I havn't actually done an NCT myself since 2013 so I dont know. One of the lads tested his 00 Leon petrol there a fortnight ago and it was 0.93 and 1.07, he passed at 1.06 iirc.

Maybe the Leon falls into the VW emissions testing category

I'm fairly sure it's still .97 and 1.03.

Maybe the greater allowance is for diesel?

Was the lambda reading the same with both lambda's?

Some mechanics have emission testing equipment, a garage near me has one but it would be a bit of a spin for you, you'll surely find one closer

when you bring in the car the next time sit in the car and have it running before they take it off you.
When your man comes out rev the shit out of it for 5 seconds, they have to be red hot before they go in. driving the bag out of it going in and then knocking it off is a waste of time. hit 7000rpm right before your man sits into the car and takes it in, its the only way you will get it through without putting in a second cat. throw in a bottle of redex too with about 10ltrs of petrol and make sure it has gone through the system before you test it. Dipetane is good also but i think redex is better.

As said above fill it with diptane or Redexbut use more than recommended I usually triple or quadrouple the dosage of diptane and ive passed everytime!

Dont fill it with anything other than petrol it will lean it out even more. You have a leak in your exhaust somewhere or the bore of the backbox is too big. Air is escaping somewhere. Get someone to put a cloth over the end of the exhaust and get underneath and listen for leaks it will force the air out through any holes. Look for black soot around too give ya a hint of where its leaking
