Having a discussion with a mate over VRT back in 2007 2009

He says that the cars wer never inspected when brought into ireland? I find this hard to believe at all

I know the NCT took over the VRT in 2011 2012

Anyone VRT a car back then?

I think a long time ago it used to be just a flat rate percentage, no matter the car...

We never got cars inspected. Just walk into vrt office when they were everywhere nearly every town had one give in your paperwork pay the fee, that was it. Never once did i have to show car or anything hence all the "non turbo" cars registered and automatics as they were near a quater the price on some to reg. Saved 3k on vrt on s15 as auto

all they seem to be worried about back then was bringing in 'vans' for the commercial rate ,and jeeps the same.. had to bring in a rav4 to them in galway, 3 door.. they honestly hadnt a clue if it was a commercial or not, despite me tellin them it wasnt, brought in 4 cars aswell, never asked to view them

Some of the cosworths would have to be brought in for inspection or other cars from England.

i remember having to go to kilkenny to vrt a motorcycle, a vehicle is classed as new for tax purposes if it has less than 6k kms on it meaning i would have had to pay vat on top of the vrt cos mine only had about 2k on it.

i parked it at the opposite end of the car park, walked about 200 yards into the building, the guy behind the desk could'nt be arsed going outside just looked out the window and asked what mileage was on it, think i said 8k or something like that, boom, didnt have to pay a cent in vat.

god bless the public service cheers cheers deffo wouldnt get away with it now.
